Galiano Italiano Grocery Store has a counter outside, under the wooden awning.
When the store’s open, the counter displays products for sale.
When the store closes, staff do a switcheroo, putting out stuff they’re giving away. (That’s right–a grocery store giving food away!)
Today it was a loaf of unsliced bakery bread and a big bunch of asparagus.
Other days, it’s a bag of apples, a small pumpkin or few tomatoes.
I guess it’s stuff that won’t last another business day.
It’s such a simple idea that makes so much sense.
My only question is why aren’t other, larger stores doing this?
